Tiny Token Empires
Today’s roundup is presented by Tiny Token Empires from HeroCraft. This game has an interesting mix of genres: the city and empire building is reminiscent of a Civilization-style game set in 2000 B.C. But the way that your empire expands is kind of like Risk… until you get into the actual battles, which play out as a swapping puzzle game. It’s an intriguing and humorous combination of strategy and puzzle elements, with HeroCraft’s usual spit and polish. There are five individual campaigns in the $ 4.99 game, with three difficulty settings for new, intermediate, and advanced strategy players.
–
HeroCraft are delighted to announce the launch of the critically acclaimed casual strategy game Tiny Token Empires on Android. By developing cities and armies, and annexing new territories, you gradually expand your power! With its cute characters, tough enemies and compelling puzzles, you’ll fall in love with this world – just before you conquer it!
Game features:
- A world of goofy gods and cute monsters
- 5 game modes, 5 distinctive campaigns
- 5 nations, 5 heroes, 25 generals and 50 troop types

Final Fantasy IV
Android Police coverage: [New Game] Square Enix’s Final Fantasy IV Available On The Play Store, With Full 3D Graphics And The Usual High Price
Just like Final Fantast III before it, FFIV is getting a fancy re-release on Android. This isn’t the old pixelated version you may remember from the SNES days, it’s the Nintendo DS 3D remake, complete with a revamped battle system, new graphics (decent for Android) and a new touch interface. It’s super expensive, but those jaw-dropping pre-rendered cinematics that Square likes to shove into its RPGs might just be worth it.
–
“FINAL FANTASY IV” has finally come to the Android. The title first debuted in 1991 as the fourth installment in the FINAL FANTASY series. Wildly popular thanks to its unique characters and dramatic storylines, it went on to be ported to many different platforms. FINAL FANTASY IV was the first title to introduce the Active Time Battle (ATB) system, which has become synonymous with the series. It also saw the introduction of the Augment system, which enabled the transfer of abilities from other characters and gave players an edge in battles.
Quadropus Rampage
Android Police review: [New Game] Quadropus Rampage Review: A Bit Shallow, But Oceans Of Fun
If an octopus had four tentacles instead of eight, it would be called a quadropus. If that creature got seriously pissed off and decided to kill everything in a leveled, roguelike brawler, you’d have Quadropus Rampage. This twin-stick isometric fighter lets you assign different weapons and abilities to each of the hero’s four limbs, getting through as many waves and bosses as you can before your inevitable defeat. The game is free, with the usual IAP upsell.
–
Quadropus Rampage is an Endless Roguelike that casts you, the player, as an enraged, four-legged cephalopod. It is your quest to reach the bottom of the ocean and destroy Pete, the evil god of the sea, before his army of abyssal creatures can overtake the ocean.
• Be a quadropus – Go on a rampage
• Perfect fusion of roguelike and brawler – Hit enemies in their stupid faces
• Endless Gameplay – Randomly generated weapons, levels, and enemies that keep the action fresh until you die from thumb exhaustion
• Intuitive, fast-paced combat – Easy to learn, difficult to master. Dodge, block, stab, smash, and spin your way to victory.
• Five epic boss fights – Pursue Pete into the depths and bludgeon his mouth off
The Forest of Doom
Combining Tin Man Games’ signature Choose Your Own Adventure/tabletop roleplaying games with a Dungeons & Dragons-style storyline seems like such an obvious move, it’s amazing that they haven’t done it already. Like most of the game-books that came before it, The Forest of Doom is expensive, but well worth it for fans of these unique niche. Unfortunately, the digital die in the game still have a pedestrian six sides.
–
Nostalgia overload. Fighting Fantasy returns with Ian Livingstone’s classic, The Forest of Doom. Take part in one of the classic gamebook experiences that introduced a whole generation to fantasy role-playing games. Computer gaming was in its infancy and it was the early days of tabletop RPGs when The Forest of Doom exploded into bookshops in the early 80s, proudly displaying Iain McCaig’s iconic cover.
City of Secrets 2 Episode 1
Android has become a virtual mecca for point-and-click adventure games, and the original City Of Secrets was well-received. The sequel has you once again playing as Moles the Mole, in a fully-voiced anthropomorphic adventure. The hand-drawn backgrounds are gorgeous, in the best tradition of the genre, and the humor on display in the Play Store listing makes it an attractive option for anyone looking to kill a bit of time with a fun story.
–
City of Secrets 2: Episode 1 is the sequel to the original game, appreciated worldwide by gamers and reviewers, the game that successfully refreshed the classic adventure game genre, conveying it to the touchscreen devices. Simple, intuitive controls, designed for touchscreen devices. Carefully designed, hand-drawn backgrounds. All dialog lines voiced. Two difficulty settings, for both the experienced and beginner players. A challenging adventure enriched by logical challenges.

Quell Memento is an impressive sequel to the original Quell, which throws in quite a bit of story for good measure. –

The Rolling Dead
Android Police coverage: [New Game] Zombie Survival Game The Rolling Dead Makes Sphero Fun Again
Sphero is that unique ball toy-controller you may have seen rolling around various trade show floors. The latest game to take advantage of it throws in the oh-so-popular zombie element (why does it always have to be zombies?) for some augmented-reality fun. You’ll have to have a Sphero to play this top-down, dual-stick/ball shooter. It’s a good thing that it’s free.
–
The virtual zombiepocalypse is here. The Rolling Dead is unlike any augmented reality game you’ve ever played. Using Sphero as a fireball-shooting warrior, you must battle against virtual zombies as they spawn out of the ground. Shoot them with fireballs, collect flaming power ups, and roll away to stay alive. The best part is you can play wherever you want. In this exciting twist on the zombie craze, the world becomes a video game and you choose the surroundings.
IMPORTANT: YOU NEED A SPHERO ROBOTIC BALL TO USE THIS APP.
UNO™ & Friends
Android Police coverage: [Draw 4!] Gameloft Releases Uno & Friends To The Play Store
UNO is… well, it’s UNO. If you haven’t played it by now, odds are pretty good that you don’t care. But if you do, Gameloft has a digital version that’s pretty faithful to the original, and features all the social networking-based gameplay you could possibly want… so long as you only want it on Facebook. The game is free to play, but you can spend a little real-world cash on themed decks and tables if they strike your fancy.
–

Playing UNO with friends, family, and the millions of fans worldwide has never been easier. Join one of the largest free online mobile gaming communities and enjoy an all-new free multiplayer experience, competitive leaderboards and fun customization options that let you shout “UNO.” on a whole new level.
Ticket to Ride
Android Police coverage: [New Game] Board Game Ticket To Ride Pulls Into The Android Station
Ticket To Ride is a successful train-based board game, which has made a small splash on iOS. It took them more than a year to bring this title over to Android, which is a bit of an insult, but those who love the original game will be willing to forgive the creators this slight. You can play against the computer to get the longest continuous train route, or play against up to four human opponents instead. The game is surprisingly expensive at $ 7.
–
Ticket to Ride® for Android is a cross-country train adventure playable online, in which you will collect and play train cards to claim railway routes connecting cities listed on Destination Tickets you will receive at the start of each game. The longer your routes, the more points you’ll earn. But be careful not to find yourself blocked off by your opponents, as each Destination ticket not fulfilled will cost you dearly.
Ku: Shroud of the Morrigan
8-bit style is all well and good, but Android devices are powerhouses – let’s see some great graphics, even in 2D! Ku takes the old Zelda style and infuses it with some breathtaking character and environmental design, all based on Celtic mythology with a healthy dose of steampunk. There’s an overarching story that you might find interesting, and the interface is decidedly mobile-friendly as well.
–
Ku: Shroud if the Morrigan is an Action Adventure Game in which Ireland’s ancient past and economic present collide. You play as young Kú, who must venture out in to a broken and strange world for the first time. You will have to battle monsters, solve puzzles and retrieve an ancient treasure from the goddess Morrigan. Forged from an ancient tale of Celtic mythology – a uniquely different recounting of the massive legendary epic, the Táin.
Battlestone™
Android Police coverage: [New Game] Zynga’s Battlestone Slashes Its Way Out Of Beta And Into The Play Store
Zynga is tired of the card and board game grind, and ready to join its contemporaries with more modern titles. Battlestone is a dungeon crawler at heart, though the swiping interface makes it more mobile-friendly than most. Collect hero units and grind on computer-controlled baddies, or duke it out with real people in multiplayer. But you’d better hope they haven’t sunk a ton of money into Zynga’s usual pay-to-win IAP scenario.
–
Swipe out Evil. Create a powerful team in this beautiful arcade action game. Collect dozens of unique fighters to drive back the evil of The Void and control the mighty forces trapped in the Battlestones. With the swipe of your finger you can deliver over-the-top attack combinations to fend off hordes of enemies. Discover and train your squad of heroes and seamlessly swap them in battle to use all of their special powers to defeat evil.
Gangstar City
Mix Sim City-style urban management with the top-down carnage of the original Grand Theft Auto games, and you get Gameloft’s latest entry in its home-grown Gangstar crime series. It’s a strange mix (and unusually creative for Gameloft) but it looks compelling – you take over territory with a mix of real estate business savvy and good old-fashioned violence. Beware of the usual free-to-play trappings.
–
Your brother has been kidnapped and now you have to take out every thug that stands between you and him. Run your own district: Collect money from shops, throw giant house parties, attract gangsters, and guard your crib. Whip out every dirty trick and deadly weapon in your arsenal to take on tons of jobs and make a name for yourself in the L.A. underground. Rob banks, fight police, kidnap enemies and more. Expand your domination over 4 different districts, from sunny Santa Monica to the famous streets of Hollywood. In Gangstar City, you’ll become the king of L.A. or die trying.
Kiwi! -the game
Android Police coverage: [New Game] Kiwi! Tribute Endless Runner Will Make You Laugh, Cry, And Watch That Video One More Time
Remember Kiwi!, the bittersweet YouTube cartoon that you watched a billion times back in 2006? Now there’s an endless runner based on the concept. It’s decidedly simple and not an official version, but if all you want to do is relive about three minutes of computer-generated heartbreak, it’s a free download.
–
Kiwi. is a light and casual game inspired by and a tribute to, Dony Permidis 3D animated YouTube hit. Avoid obstacles and collect stars to buy power-ups. Connect the game with Facebook, to compete against your friends, and save your game data across devices.
Twin Blades
Ah, the old classic tale: nun meets zombies, nun grabs various weapons, nun kills zombies, rinse and repeat. Twin Blades features some heavy anime influence, but its gameplay is pure 16-bit beat-em-up. You’ll improve your skills and equipment as you mow through enemies and bosses, and the stages morph according to a real-time game clock, opening new areas and bad guys. Play Store reviews report awesome 2D graphics, but controls which are sometimes cumbersome.
–
TwinBlades is a frantic shooter game set in a medieval era with unique manga-like graphics. Help the nun defeat evil with some heavy zombie-killing action across multiple environments, venture through the city market, the cemetery, a chapel in ruins and the city’s outskirts to purge the town of all its living-dead inhabitants. Buy new skills and powers and upgrade them as you progress day after day. Manage carefully your energy by slicing zombies with your mighty scythe in order to use the destructive powers of your artillery.
SlamBots
If the standard jumping platformer game included robots, ninjas, demons, and the unstoppable Velocispider, it would look like this (and it would be a lot more awesome). SlamBots is pretty basic: tilt the phone left of right to climb up and down the stage, tapping to slam and smash bad guys like Mario on ketamine. Fans of pixelated graphics will get an extra kick out of this one.
–
SlamBots. SLAM your way through swarms of evil robots in this action packed arena battle game. Use an array of spiky slamming machines to crush the enemy, rack up massive scores, and power up your skills. Slam the night away in multiple arenas, unlock various characters, mostly it’s about slamming (touch and hold the screen to Slam.).
Sheep Up!™
Sheep Up is another take on the jumping platformer, this time with 3D graphics and a top-down perspective. You play as a toy sheep lost in the unknowable depths of a cardboard box, desperately jumping for freedom to meet your lovable Corgi master. The 3D perspective helps add a few puzzle elements to an other wise tired genre, and the presentation is undeniably cute.
–
Jump into a vibrant and colorful adventure inside a cardboard box. Baaaa. You are the only hope for a tiny toy sheep stored in a cardboard box together with other old toys. Help the jumping sheep escape and reach the top of the box for freedom. Sheep Up. is an original and humorous puzzle platformer complete with many addictive levels, a multi-directional tilt control gameplay, a huge variety of gameplay elements, many cool power-ups, colorful and enjoyable settings, an original soundtrack, and much more. Instant smiles included in the pack.
Super Soccer Champs 2013
Super Soccer Champs gets its inspiration from the simple sports games found on the NES. Two virtual sticks, a team, and a dream are all you need to rise to the top in the soccer (football, whatever) world. Oh, and some decent players. And a pretty good manager – that’s you. And and no small amount of luck. Graphics are simple and fluid – any device running Gingerbread or higher should have no trouble with this game.
–
Inspired by legendary titles such as Sensible Soccer, Kick-Off and Dino Dini’s ‘Goal.’, Super Soccer Champs is fun to pick up and play but offers surprising depth. Player Manager Mode adds simple yet effective squad management; Buy and sell players, manage your squad’s fitness levels, and even get job offers from more prestigious clubs if you’re getting the results. Featuring League play based in England, Scotland, Spain, Italy, Japan and China, and Historic Tournaments; Rewrite the record books, only your result can change the course of history.
Battle Bears Gold
We covered the original Battle Bears when it came out. This is the new and improved version, with tweaked graphics and gameplay, plus a new Terminator-inspired class. It’s got the same frantic team-based multiplayer fun as the first game, and users can carry their stats and equipment over to the new title after logging in.
–
A funny and addictive class-based online multiplayer action shooter. Choose from 8 classes, tons of wacky weapons and equipment, and play against millions of warriors worldwide.
8 Character Classes with distinct abilities:
ASSAULT: B-1000 (NEW Class.)
SOLDIER: Oliver
HEAVY: Riggs
DEMOLITION: Tillman
HUGGABLE: Huggable
SNIPER: Astoria
CHUB SCOUT: Wil
ENGINEER: Graham
The Redneckoning
There are two things everyone knows about rednecks: they tend to have exquisite taste when it comes to chewing tobacco and mobile homes, and they like their guns. This makes them pretty perfect foot soldiers to fight against an alien invasion, as turret shooter The Redneckoning demonstrates. Players can utilize suitably over-the-top weapons and powerups as they defend ‘Murica from those no-good illegal space aliens, and shell out real money for more when the ammo runs dry.
–
Aliens have invaded and they’ve set up shop in Roscoe’s favorite neck of the woods. Determined to make a stand, he’s taken off in his truck with the biggest gun he could find; Roscoe’s not going to let them vermin run rampant in his town. The real question is, how many can he take out before they get him? Obliterate enemies using abilities like Artillery Strikes and Nucular ‘Splosions. Activate buffs like Riled Up to generate more rage. Shoot power-ups in the field like Incendiary Rounds which turn Roscoe’s gun into a fiery death dealing machine.
GelaTennis
Imagine if Breakout was played in a circle, with one horrible pun for its title. That’s GelaTennis (get it?) in a nutshell – tap the sides of the circle to keep the balls going, until you run out of targets, time, or balls. That probably could have been phrased better. The technical presentation is impressive for such a simple game.
–
The goal of GelaTennis is simply to achieve the highest score. That objective can be achieved best by keeping the most balls alive for the longest possible time.
Slydris
Yup, it’s Tetris, with a new perspective. Instead of waiting for blocks to fall vertically, you slide individual blocks left or right, clearing a path for the blocks above to fall and create combos. It’s a lot like Tetris Blitz from EA, without the mind-numbing push towards social gaming. Standard time attack and marathon modes are augmented by a “zen mode” for less frantic sessions.
–
Slydris is a unique and engaging puzzle game with a simple premise but deceptively deep gameplay:
- Slide and drop blocks to create full lines of blocks.
- Create combos of falling blocks and clearing lines to fill up your bomb meter faster.
- Create a row of a single color for a color burster.
- Other special blocks (Shatter, Upcoming, Locked, and Magnet) add gameplay variety and challenge.
The Boomerang Trail
This is a simple puzzle game. You use a projectile to trace a trail of lights on the game board. Why the Australian theme, complete with boomerangs and a kangaroo dressed like an aboriginal warrior? Search me. Try not to hit the obstacles, and use trick shots with special boomerangs for those hard-to-reach areas. Just try to resist the urge to punch that smug cartoon – I’m getting Duck Hunt flashbacks just looking at him.
–
Take to the Australian outback and master the hunters trail. Follow the kangaroo spirit through the Australian wilderness, along your trail to enlightenment and learn the ancient aboriginal art of ‘Rang’ throwing. A wonderfully simple throwing mechanic will allow you to quickly become skilled at throwing Boomerangs, Splitterangs and Kaboomerangs. There are many trails to complete and tokens to collect while avoiding the Australian wildlife, and testing your skills at ‘Rang’ throwing.
Forsaken Planet
Forsaken Planet is an online multiplayer battle arena, wherein you control an interstellar fast food worker fighting for his or her (its?) life. Gameplay is your basic dual-stick shooter with updated 3D graphics, and online multiplayer is the only way to fly. The game is very much in the beta stage, and pretty rife with IAP as well, but you can avoid it by playing as a guest.
–
Battle it out to become “Employee of The Month” at the Galaxy’s #1 fast food chain, all while collecting as much Chikkin as possible to save your business and…your life. Forsaken Planet is a challenging, cross-platform multiplayer fast-paced action/strategy game catering to gamers of all ages and expertise. Controls are fully customizable and support touch or Bluetooth enabled game controller. With over 100 items available from the in-game store, you can customize your character to fit your gameplay style.
Color Zen
Here’s one of those super-simple concept games that all the kids are talking about. Combine the shapes in Color Zen to either eliminate them or spread them to the entire playing field. Zero out all the colors, and you win the round. It’s an interesting concept with some unique combinations of shapes, but if you’re more into the “shoot stuff until it blows up and/or dies” side of mobile gaming, it’s probably best to move along.
–
Color Zen is a new kind of puzzle game. One that invites you to put on your headphones, relax, and find your way through an abstract world of colors and shapes. There is no score. No penalties for failure. Just a simple set of rules, intuitive controls, and satisfying puzzles. Get into the flow with Color Zen. This game has been a labor of love for the team at Large Animal Games.
After Earth
Usually it’s not a great sign for a licensed mobile game if it employs the standard Infinity Blade beat-em-up or endless runner style. But After Earth uses both, so it can’t possibly fail, right? Right? In its defense, the game looks decent enough in the graphics department, and if you feel the need to dive deeper into the movie’s plot (a pretty shallow pool in itself, by all accounts) it should serve well enough. Keep an eye out for the Hollywood nepotism power-up!
–
After Earth is an all-new game based on the film where you can slide, leap and fly through perilous terrain, and slice and dice evil creatures that lurk in the dark with your cutlass sword. Not your typical action-running game – you can confront and defeat an array of vicious creatures in epic battles, freefall, zipline and more.Fight for survival and defeat your enemies—but whatever you do, do not succumb to fear.
World War Z
Heads up: you probably shouldn’t buy this game. We’re only including it in this roundup to dissuade potential purchases. After fumbling the launch and taking World War Z off the Play Store for a few days, the developer still hasn’t resolved some game-killing licensing issues. Those who have actually managed to play it say it’s a pretty boring rail shooter… but only after the 1.4GB download destroyed any chance of a refund for the $ 4.99 title. Oh, and there’s IAP as well. Thanks, Phosphor, for maintaining the low standards of licensed games.
–
Get dropped into the middle of the World War Z chaos. Featuring 28 visceral levels, intense combat, engaging puzzles, upgradable weapons and armor, and unlimited challenge mode. The World War Z game challenges you: play to survive. In a race against time, travel the world to rescue your loved ones in the midst of the deadly Zombie pandemic.
Battlelog
